Logistics #5 External Factors Roundup
Over the past week we have been looking at how
external factors have helped to shape and form international logistics. We have
learnt that there are four major issues that have improved the speed and
reliability of the supply chain:
- Government and Economic Unions
- Technology
- Environmental Issues
- Natural Disasters and Unexpected Events
These factors have resulted in businesses turning
more frequently to third party logistics in a bid to provide cost effective
logistics that satisfy the consumer. Being able to change has helped
logistics to continue to provide their services by:
- Becoming globalised thanks to harmonising
transportation and taxes
- Improving and providing simple management systems
and trace and tracking online
- Becoming greener by speeding up the delivery
process, eliminating hubs, direct deliveries and green packaging options
- Mastering the global infrastructures and providing
24/7 courier services to work around unforeseen problems.
External factors are not the only issues faced by logistics.
Return to our blog next week when we shall be looking at manufacturing and
supply.
